New girl and New awards!

Hi Everyone,

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Gemma Snewin and I am the brand new staff member at Wehl's Mount Benson Vineyards. I'm on board to fill the very large shoes of Jade Scott, who has started her family last week by welcoming her first child Amelia Ruby (8 pounds, 13.5 ounce) into the world on Friday at 5.12pm. Peter, Leah and family send their congratulations to Jade and partner Dan Watson, along with mine. I had the pleasure of meeting Jade for a job run through just before she left Wehl's Mount Benson Vineyards for family life and she gave me some wonderful tips, as well as making sure I keep Peter in line here in the office! (Thanks Jade!)

My role will be involving the marketing, cellar door and administration of the winery and I am very much looking forward to seeing some of the regulars at the cellar door for some serious tasting efforts.

Being new to the Limestone Coast area, a city girl fresh from Adelaide, I'm looking forward to taking "marketing" trips around the region for a bit of "research" on the wonderful food and wine I hear about. I moved to the lovely little town of Lucindale in October 2009 and have learnt some funny things about farming and country life, luckily I don't have my partner here to tell you the one about when I cried after hitting a rabbit and a fox all in one day......... don't laugh...... ok....... it was pretty funny!
Some fantastic news to hand today, our Wehl's Mount Benson Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 has just been awarded 5 stars in the Winestate Magazine coming out in May/June. Also our 2007 Shiraz earned 4.5 stars which is equally as fabulous. Peter and Leah were ecstatic to find out and we had a celebratory cup of tea this morning.
So, keep an eye out for our future blogs, which hopefully will be much more frequent after Leah has officially handballed the Blog to me, as well as an improved online sales facility so all of you out there can purchase as much wine as you want very soon. Thanks again to Peter, Leah and family for welcoming me so warmly to Wehl's Mount Benson Vineyards and I look forward to working, seeing and tasting with you all soon.

Cheers,

Gemma

Happy 2010!!!

Wow, dare i say its nearly February already!!

We have had a busy Summer & its set to get bigger this Sunday 17th Jan.
It is our annual "Day on the Estate".
Relax in the beautiful surrounds of our vineyard & cellar door. Enjoy a light lunch while listening to the tunes of Lincoln Sharpe & indulge in a few glasses of Mount Benson's finest wines!!

We will have the BBQ going flat out, with Pete serving up a mouth watering steak with fresh summer salads. We will also have on offer cheese platters & yummy homemade desserts. We will have wine by the glass & by the bottle for you to purchase along with your lunch.

This year we will have a helicopter cruising around offering rides to our visitors, which will add a fun twist to the day (for a small fee of course!!)

Entry is free, so bring a picnic rug & a hat & come relax at Wehl's for the afternoon!!

Our latest Brag !!!!

Great news everyone we received 5 wine glasses in the latest James Halliday review for our 06 cab merlot, this is equivalent to 5 stars. Our 08 sauv blanc and 06 cab sauv received 4 glasses which is also a pleasing result. Getting a review from this wine judge is the best you can ask for, he only judges your wine once and he has one of the best reputations in the wine industry, not only a great palate but above reproach.

Winter 2009

I took this photo this morning, lots of wintery thoughts ran through my mind when I snapped this, didn't help that my nose was freezing and my toes were numb!!

Anyway, just a reminder to put the 5th of July in your calendar, come out to the cellar door for food, our wonderful wines, fun and live music, we look forward to seeing you.

Speaking of wines, we have our medal winning 06 reds still available, so don't miss out.

Our new 09 Sauv Blanc will be released soon, also announcing our new release, the unwooded Chardy! I will keep you up to date with the wine news as it gets closer.

Harvest

This is a pic I took one foggy morning recently, we have been having a few of these recently, great when you are trying to pick fruit!

Oh well!

Please excuse the date, I haven't worked out that setting yet!!

Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful safe Easter, down our way was extremely busy, lots of people enjoying our wonderful warm weather, superb!!

Vintage is going well, fruit has all the qualities we are looking for, our Cabernet is being picked as I type this, Peter is smiling so he must be happy.

Talk soon, hopefully with some updates on the new stable of wines.

Summer 2009

Summer at Mount Benson was lovely as usual although end of January and beginning of February were very hot.

Great beach and fishing weather, bringing lots of boaties and tourists to the coast for their holidays. This resulted in Robe and Kingston being extremely busy, lots of happy but tired business people in both towns.

Our event we hold each January was a resounding success this year, lots of people were entertained by the smooth singing voice of Elijah Maddison and an extra treat, a couple of local lads who play in concert bands getting up and jamming to some back up music much to the crowds delight.

There were quite a few dancing on the lawns and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Add the third Sunday in January to your calendar for next year and don’t miss out!!
